Here is a list of frequently asked questions concerning Ubisoft’s User Research Lab:

Registration

Q: How do I sign up for the playtests?

Our Website playtest-secure.ubi.com/ makes it quick and easy to create a profile which automatically signs you up to participate in our studies. It’s very important to give us your phone number in order to be invited for a study.

Q: Are there any age restrictions to register?

Anyone over the age of 3 can participate, however minors aged 17 and younger are required to provide parental consent before creating a profile and participating in any current studies. This form is available after the first sign-up step on playtest-secure.ubi.com/.

Q: My child would like to participate to a study, how can I sign them up and where can I find more information?

You can register your child by sending us the parental consent form which is available after the first sign-up step on our website. You can also always send us an email:

Q: I am not a very avid gamer, I do not play videogames often, should I bother trying to register?

We are always looking for a variety of different players, whether they are experienced or casual players. Your opinions matter to us as you represent an important part of the gaming community.

Q: Once my profile is created, when can I expect to participate in a playtest?

As soon as your profile is complete it is added to our database. Every study we conduct requires a variety of participants. Once there is a study which matches your profile you will be contacted by the Ubisoft User Research Lab.

Q: What if I no longer want to be called to participate?

Please send us an email. A representative will be happy to assist you.

Q: Do I need to register again for each test?

No. Once you’re in our database, you’ll be eligible for all future tests.

Scheduling

Q: I was called but I wasn’t chosen. Did I say something wrong?

Not at all. In order to match the participants for each study, representatives make hundreds of calls to possible participants according to their profile. If you weren’t picked it only means that the particular test you were called for did not match your profile. The answers and comments you provide are also noted by our representatives in order to refine your profile in our database, which makes it easier to refine searches and possibly match you to future studies.

Q: I will not be able to attend a study that I was scheduled for, what should I do?

Please contact the lab as soon as possible and ask to talk to the playtest lab coordinator.

Q: I have been scheduled for a playtest and I would like to bring a friend with me.

Unfortunately all participants must be scheduled ahead of time; this is because each participant’s profile must be validated before they can participate in a playtest. There is a limited amount of space for participants and only a limited time for each test, because of this and security reasons we cannot accommodate walk-in participants. We do, however always accept referrals. You can ask your friend to create an account under playtest-secure.ubi.com/.

Q: How often can I participate in Ubisoft user research studies?

There are no restrictions as to the amount of times you can participate in relevant studies.

Q: How come the representative that called me didn’t tell me what I will be testing?

At the lab we want participants to enter the test without having any preconceived notions about the game before they enter. As for knowing the specifics of the test, due to security and legal issues we cannot give you any more information until you have signed a non-disclosure agreement upon your arrival at the lab.

Q: Can I tell my friends and family about the game that I was “playtesting”?

No, all participants must sign a non-disclosure agreement which prevents them from discussing anything which occurs during the test, for more information concerning the non-disclosure agreement please write to labomontreal@ubisoft.com.

Q: What should I expect when participating in a playtest?

Directions, special accommodations and parking space

Q: I use a wheelchair; does your building have wheelchair access?

A wheelchair access is available in the Montreal and Quebec City studios but unfortunately not in the Toronto studio. Please let us know and we will make the proper accommodations for you.

Q: I need an address and directions to get to the lab for the study I was scheduled to participate in.

Q: Is there a designated parking area?

You will be required to park on the streets surrounding our Studio. Make sure to arrive early to be able to have time to look for a parking space. We strongly suggest taking public transit.

Q: Are the transport, accommodation and food included with the playtest?

Unless specified otherwise, transportation, accommodation and meals are not covered by Ubisoft.

Compensation and gratuity

Q: I am going to participate in a game study and I wasn’t informed on compensation, where can I get this information?

Please write an email to the studio to which you were invited to, with your name and the date of the study you are participating in. The reward varies according to the study.

Q: I completed a study recently and asked for my compensation to be sent to me in the mail because it was out of stock. I haven’t received it yet.
